Highland Folk Museum

On the 21st and the 26th of October visitors to the Highland Folk Museum can see “Waulking the Cloth”, the traditional shrinking of the tweed, as ladies from the Newtonmore Waulking Group sing their rhythmic Gaelic songs.

On the 23rd and 24th of October resident weaver Margaret Fryer will work the replica 1700’s loom producing a Homecoming Cloth – a tartan of her own design reflecting the purple and green hues of the Scottish Landscape.

In addition visitors can see a military display illustrating the Scots and Irish troops of 1644, with pike, musket and broadsword during the Fraser Regiment re-enactment on the 24th and 25th October. Be bowled over by a variety of interactive sessions including a presentation on the Campaign; parade and musket display; ‘Meet the Soldiers’ session; ‘Meet the “other army”’ session; the camp followers tale; and skirmish.
