St Kilda to Australia - the story of the migration to Port Phillip in 1852-53. By Professor Eric Richards.
Enjoy an illustrated lecture by the renowned historian Eric Richards of Flinders University, Adelaide on the epic and ill-fated migration journey made by a large group of St Kildans in the mid- nineteenth century. He explores their journey on the barque ‘Priscilla’ from Liverpool to Port Phillip in Victoria, Australia. Of the 36 Gaelic-speaking St Kildans who sailed on this ship, only half survived and it has been said that St Kilda never recovered. The lecture will be in English, following an introduction in Gaelic.
